Diagnosis of SINUSITIS-SINUS INFECTIONS

Diagnosis of acute sinusitis is generally done by reviewing a person’s symptoms and examining the nose and face. Doctors perform a small and quick procedure called rhinoscopy, in which they examine the inside of the nose with a special instrument called rhinoscope.¹

For long term symptoms, doctors may ask for  X rays or even a computerized tomography (CT) scan—to confirm the diagnosis of sinusitis and to evaluate how severe it is.¹

Other laboratory tests that can help find out possible causes of chronic rhinosinusitis include¹ -

• Blood tests to rule out conditions that are associated with sinusitis, such as an immune deficiency disorder
• Allergy testing
• Tests on the tissues inside the sinuses to detect a bacterial or fungal infection
