To diagnose TB, apart from physical examination and searching for lymph swellings, doctors may ask for the following tests -

  • Skin test:The most commonly used diagnostic tool for tuberculosis is a simple skin test - called Mantoux test is performed.1
  • Blood tests:Many blood tests may be used to confirm or rule out hidden or active tuberculosis. These tests use technology to measure your immune system's reaction to TB bacteria.1
  • Imaging tests:If the skin test comes positive, doctors may ask for a chest X-ray or a CT scan to confirm the extend of infection.1
  • Sputum tests:Apart from the imaging, doctors may ask to test the sputum — the mucus that comes up when you cough. The samples are tested for TB bacteria.1

  • A nutritious food intake must be encouraged.
  • High protein foods that support weight gain are advised.
  • All kinds of meat, poultry, eggs, milk and milk products, green leafy vegetables, cheese etc are advised.

Lifestyle changes (Vihar)

  • Avoid excessive stress, physical exertion and wasting.
  • Always cover mouth with a mask to protect form infection spread.
