Boils and Carbuncles Causes

Causes of BOILS AND CARBUNCLES

Staphylococcus aureus, commonly found under the skin and inside the nose, is responsible for most boils. Boils can develop at areas of skin broken due to small injury or insect bite enabling entry of the bacteria.

Although all individuals are at a risk of developing boils, the risk increases in:

  • Individuals in close contact with persons having Staphylococcus infection, or those who have a boil or carbuncle.
  • Individuals with diabetes
  • Individuals with other skin disorders which result in damage to the skin's protective barrier, skin problems, such as acne and eczema
  • Individuals with reduced immunity

Ayurveda mentions that long persisting dosha imbalance in individuals with diabetes leads to vitiation of Medho dhathu (adipose tissue) and Kleda (metabolic waste). Intensified doshas exhibit their symptoms on the skin surface.2
