Diagnosis of FUNGAL SKIN INFECTION -TINEA

Your Doctor may diagnose the condition by Inspection of the affected site. Some of the common tests used to diagnose Tinea infections include
Microscopic examination of skin and nail specimens which may reveal hyphae and fungal spores.
Fungal culture can identify the exact species but is not always reliable and it can take six weeks to obtain results.
Ultraviolet light (Wood's light) is useful for identifying scalp ringworm especially. Fluorescence is produced by the fungus. Fluorescence is not seen with fungi that cause Athelete’s foot or Jock Itch.
Rarely, a biopsy may be needed if the case is atypical or not responding to treatment
