Causes of HERPES

Herpes simplex viruses spread from person to person through close contact (.contagious disease) and one can get a herpes simplex virus from touching a herpes sore. Most people, however, get herpes simplex from an infected person who does not have sores.  A person with HSV-1 (herpes simplex type 1) can pass it to someone else by – kissing, touching the person’s skin, such as pinching a child’s cheek or by sharing objects such as silverware, lip balm, or a razor.1,2

Genital herpes may be transmitted through sexual contact with someone having HSV-1 or HSV-2. Infection may also be transmitted through contact with mucosal surfaces, genital secretions or oral secretions (saliva) from infected partner who may not have visible sores — and produce herpes sores on the genitals. An infected mother can pass the herpes virus to the baby during childbirth. 1,2

Ayurveda indicates that Sarasapika is associated with raktadosha and kaphadosha. The aggravating causes of herpes can be categorized into three - sexual intercourse, fever and urinary disease. 3
