A blood test is done to diagnose a lipid disorder. Everyone should have their first lipid exam test taken by age 35 in men, and age 45 in women.

Normal levels of cholesterol to be maintained are:

Bad cholesterol -LDL: 70 to 130 mg/dL (lower numbers are better)

Good cholesterol (HDL): greater than 50 mg/dL (high numbers are better)

Total cholesterol: lesser than 200 mg/dL (lesser numbers are better)

Triglycerides: 10 to 150 mg/dL (lower numbers are better)

Diet Recommendations (Aahar)

Food which is light in nature, free from fat and starch should be used.

  • Vegetables: Karela, Lemongrass, Fenugreek, carrot, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower
  • Fruits: Banana, apples, strawberry, pears
  • Herbs: Ardrak, Garlic, Ajamoda, Arjuna, Tulsi
  • Extracts (Arka): Ajamoda, Arjuna, Ginger, Kalonji (black cumin), Oils: Coconut oil
  • Seeds: Flax seed
  • Pulses: Soyabean

Lifestyle changes (Vihar)

Pranayama & s trenous activities like brisk walking, swimming, running, aerobics etc. according to your health should be followed.
