What is Diabetes in menopause Ayurvedic treatment

Diabetes is a lifelong disease in which the blood sugar levels rise higher than normal. Menopause is that phase of life when a woman’s monthly periods stop, usually occurring around the age of 50.

How are the two related?

Menopause in women may increase their risk of diabetes, ultimately leading to unique challenges.2

In Ayurveda, diabetes is called madhumeha kshaudrameha which means “excessive urine with sweet taste like honey”. Diabetes is described as one of the 20 types of urinary diseases or pramehas which are classified based on the imbalance of predominant doshas of the individuals (10 due to kapha, 6 due to pitta and 4 due to vata), and physical appearance of urine. Ayurveda describes menopause as rajonivrutti which means “menstrual flow stopping forever”.
