HEPATITIS Meaning

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. The most common cause for hepatitis is the hepatitis viruses but toxic substances (e.g. alcohol, certain drugs), other infections and autoimmune disorders can also cause hepatitis. Hepatitis is divided into 5 types - A, B, C, D and E.¹

Hepatitis falls under yakrut vikaras category (liver diseases). Viral infection hampers the liver metabolism causing vitiation of pitta dosha, vata dosha, ras dhatu, and rakta dhatu. These vitiated elements diminishes digestive fire leading to poor metabolism of the liver.²
