What is Enlarged prostate or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia -BPH Ayurvedic treatment

ENLARGED PROSTATE OR BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA -BPH Meaning

The Prostate gland is small gland situated at the base of the urinary bladder in males, through which the urethra passes. As men age, it is common to have an uncomplicated enlargement of the gland - medically called as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). While it is not a medical emergency, it may cause some troubling urinary symptoms. If untreated, or if it enlarges to a larger extent, there can be blockage of urine flow leading to higher chances of infections and problems in the bladder, urinary tract or kidney.1

In Ayurveda, the symptoms similar to that of  BPH and enlargement of the gland in middle aged or elderly men is similar to the description of ‘Vatashteela’, which is again a  subtype of Mutraghat (suppression of urine).2
