RETROGRADE EJACULATION AYURVEDIC TREATMENT

The management of any underlying cause of retrograde ejaculation can help manage the infertility associated with the condition. Otherwise, no treatment is needed for the condition.¹

Ayurveda suggests kaphaja shamaka chikitsa for shukrameha. This done through shodhana (expulsive) therapy involving vaman karma (emesis) and basti karma (medicinal enema). Additionally a kapha reducing diet (ahar) and lifestyle changes (vihar) are recommended.² The Vajikaran or Vrishya therapies are a clinical specialty of Ayurveda that play an important role in maintaining the sexual health.

Diet Recommendations (Aahar)

• Foods rich in Vitamin C such as citrus fruits (lemons, oranges etc) should be consumed
• Foods that are recommended to be taken in plenty are Shigru (drum sticks), Shyamaka (Setaria italica), Kodrava (Echinochloa frumentacea), Turmeric, Goose berry, Barley, Wheat and green grams
• Avoid foods that cause indigestion
• Foods to avoid: excess salt, alcohol, astringent foods, excess ghee, oils, new grains (navanna), sour buttermilk

Lifestyle changes (Vihar)

• Follow a systematic daily way of life (Dincharya) that includes appropriate sleeping and waking patterns, good quality and time for sleep, sexual activities, and exercises
• Avoid activities that lead to stress
• Avoid performing excessive exercises
• Avoid suppression of urges (vegavidharan)
