Diet Recommendations (Aahar)

Diet rich in iron is recommended. Some of the iron rich foods are –

  • Lean, red meats and poultry
  • Dark, leafy green vegetables (such as broccoli, kale and spinach)
  • Eggs
  • Raisins, dates, pomegranates, apples, sesame seeds, jaggery, figs and beetroot
  • More fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains
  • Milk is essential but avoid drinking milk immediately after taking an iron supplement as calcium may interrupt iron absorption

Iron taken along with vitamin C helps in better absorption of iron. Some of the vitamin C rich foods include citrus fruits and juices like oranges, lemons, amla etc., strawberries, tomatoes, peppers etc.

  • Avoidance of smoking and alcohol
  • Regular exercise to maintain fitness
  • Avoidance of contact with animals for prevention of worm infestation
  • Eating a healthy balanced diet
  • Getting adequate sleep
