POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME-DISEASE -PCOS OR PCOD- Ayurvedic Tips

Your doctor may perform several tests to confirm your PCOS. Some of these include –

  • Laboratory tests – Hormone levels are tested including male hormone testosterone and luteinising hormone (LH) that may be raised. Blood sugar levels and tests for diabetes are also undertaken.
  • Ultrasound imaging of the ovaries to reveal the small cysts over the slightly enlarged ovaries.

Diet Recommendations (Aahar)

The goal of PCOS diet is to promote weight loss. Diets that are low in fat and carb-rich may increase insulin levels, so for women with PCOS, a low-carb diet is recommended. Rather than completely restricting carbohydrates, more complex carbohydrates and fibres should be included in the diet. Some diet tips include:

  • Increase intake of whole-grain cereals, barley, brown rice, and beans.
  • Avoid white bread, pasta and rice.
  • Increase intake of fruits, vegetables, pulses and wholegrain foods.

Lifestyle changes (Vihar)

The primary lifestyle recommendation is control of body weight.

  • Perform routine aerobic exercises and yogasanas to keep your weight in check.
  • Avoid smoking, alcohol intake and caffeine intake (coffee, soft drinks, energy drinks, etc).
